Happy Days!

Brian Dunkleman is most famous for being one of the hosts of American Idol during its first season. Unfortunately for Mr. Dunkleman, he lost a power struggle to Ryan Seacrest and never returned. Let's ignore the fact that losing a death struggle with Seacrest is like losing a tug-o-war to Poppa Smurf, and focus on the reality that the loss of his American Idol gig put him in celebrity limbo. If you are sharing the stage with Brian, Erin "Joanie Cunningham" Moran, and that guy who played Screech on "Saved by the Bell", then something very bad is happening in your career. This is a lesson that former High Stakes Poker host, A.J. Benza is learning the hard way.

For a while Benza was the punching bag for Gabe Kaplan on the popular poker program. Perhaps the most significant interaction between A.J. and his Welcome Back, Kotter co-host was when Kaplan told him, on camera, that Benza knew nothing about poker and didn't belong on the show. After dealing with a co-host who regarded him about as relevant to the game of poker as post nasal drip, a stint at boot camp may not have looked like such a bad idea. Now that he is a cast member on VH1's Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp, his days with Kaplan may not be looking so bad.

Celebrity Fit Club is a show that pass? celebrities use in much the same way that less genetically blessed women use a wonder bra. Of course there is the goal of shedding pounds and inches, but that can be done in the privacy of one's home without having a Marine yelling at you while a psychologist tries to get to the bottom of why you like pizza. This is the media world that A.J. has found himself in. Hopefully, at some point he can find a means of escape from this show. Good luck A.J.
