Doyle Brunson doesn't look like the type who spends a lot of time watching MTV. He looks more like the sort that will spend his limited television time watching old re-runs of Rawhide or Maverick. Like most reasonable people on the planet we are guessing Mr. Brunson would rather have nasal polyps removed with a belt sander and lighter fluid than watch an episode of "The Real World". So why are these kids showing up on his website?
Personalities from the long running MTV reality show will be appearing in the Celebrity Bounty Poker Tournament at DoylesRoom.com. Dave Sky and Will Gill from season 20 of the Real World will join their season 19 colleague in the tourney. The press release refers to these kiddies as "stars" and they are playing in an event with the word "celebrity" built right into it, but can anyone from the Real World be described with either of those words?
While this is a transparent move to grab the attention of college aged poker players, they probably would have done better if they had gotten some folks from "Lost", "Survivor", "Battlestar Galactica", or "The Flavor of Love" to play in this event. In an event that will include real stars like Doyle Brunson, Mike "The Mad Genius of Poker" Caro, and Hoyt Corkins some kids who are simply in minute 12 of their 15 minutes of fame are conspicuously out of place.
Well this is a move that Doyle probably had very little to do with, but rather is the product of a marketing department gone awry. Oh well, it should be a fun event anyway.
