D'oh!

D'oh!

Sometimes things just don't seem to make a lick of sense. Anybody who has ever found themselves watching Flavor Flav's "The Flavor of Love" and discovered that they are oddly unable to look away from this train wreck, will know what we mean. Most things that don't make sense seem to happen in Hollywood, but occasionally incomprehensible things happen in Australia. This would seem appropriate considering the fact that this continent has managed to produce a duck-billed mammal that lays egg like chicken. Recently something has happened there that doesn't make sense in a very annoying way though.  The Australian Government is investigating how a 9 year old girl managed to see an ad for a poker site while watching the Simpsons. The investigation is a response to a complaint logged by the young girl's father.  Does anybody see the problem with guy allowing his kid to watch the Simpsons, but barking at an ad for an internet gaming site? Homer Simpson drinks too much, swears, gambles, and occasionally commits a human rights violation against his son Bart. After letting her see this he draws the line at internet gambling? This is like him being okay with her spending a weekend at the Neverland ranch with Michael Jackson, but suddenly becoming overprotective at having her go watch a Harry Potter film. It doesn't make any sense.  Some of the clouds on this issue were lifted when it turned out that her dad was the Chief Executive of the Problem Gambling Foundation, so he may be using his own child as a foil to further his own personal agenda. Unfortunately, he losses all credibility when in the same story about an investigation of a child viewing an ad for internet poker it comes out that his impressionable little girl is also watching a very adult themed cartoon. If we are going to sic the nanny state on companies because somebody too young to get a credit card has seen the ad for their "immoral" business, perhaps we should investigate the parents for what they are letting their kid watch. Better yet, instead of wasting taxpayer money on things this dumb, why don't we just let the families sort out what their kids can see for themselves?
