WSOP Class Is in Session

WSOP Class Is in Session

Usually when most people think about academies, stodgy professors with patches on their jacket's elbows and the occasional fraternity hazing comes to mind. While most of us can do without the paddlings, wedgies and binge drinking that comes with pledging one of the school's social groups, the learning from an academy is usually something that comes in handy later down the line in life. While the World Series of Poker can offer an experience that is about as comfortable as the initiation from the most malevolently creative fraternity, they do try to help out by offering poker academies for those with a thirst for knowledge.

As part of the WSOP experience players can participate in a number of events that are geared to helping them survive in the brutal tournament environment. On June 6 and 7 the World Series of Poker Academy introduces a Ladies Only event, taking place at Caesars Palace. Annie Duke will be teaching the women the finer points of the game along with Alex "The Insider" Outhred and retired FBI agent Joe Navarro. Participants will be eligible for four WSOP event seats along with the knowledge they take away with them. The cost of this academy is $1699.

Along with this ladies only event there will be a WSOP tune-up academy for those who want to get ready for the Main Event. Participants will learn at the feet of Annie Duke, Mark Seif, Phil Gordon, Phil Hellmuth, Joe Navarro, and Alex Outhred. This event will be teaching the sort of advanced topics that will help a player go far in the Main Event. While no seats to WSOP events are being offered with this academy, the knowledge is its own reward. This will occur on June 29th to July 1st and cost a healthy $1999. Anyone who finishes in the money thanks to either of these courses can do so with the knowledge that the classes have paid for themselves.
