Civil wars are often the most brutal because nobody can get under your skin the way family can. That is true whether it is North vs. South, Cavalier vs. Roundhead, or Hatfield vs. McCoy, the people closest to you can push your buttons like nobody else can. The World Poker Tour has been waging its own little civil war for almost two years, and though the death toll wasn't up there with Antietam or the time that an uppity Quaker named Cromwell had decided that England would do just fine without a King, it has been brutal nonetheless. Well the war between some big named players and the World Poker Tour is now over, and everyone involved have reached some sort of D?tente.
Chris Ferguson, Andrew Bloch, Annie Duke, Phil Gordon, and Howard Lederer had taken the WPT to court over issues regarding the release form that players had to sign before participating in their televised poker tournaments. Originally there were seven players joined in a struggle against the WPT, but Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem dropped their involvement before the final resolution.
In the end the cessation of hostilities wasn't brought about with the dropping of some sort of legal atomic weapon, but the whole thing fizzled with all the ferocity of an episode of Xena: Warrior Princess.
In the end the World Poker Tour agreed to amend its release form and didn't pay any damages to the players involved in the lawsuit. The players on the other hand had nothing but good things to say about their former foe. Chris Ferguson, speaking on behalf of the players had the following to say, "We are happy to have come to an agreement that is fair to all players, and to have put in place a new release that clears up ambiguities in how players' images may be used. We are especially happy that this new release will apply to all poker players who wish to participate in WPT tournaments and events. WPTE has created some of the best poker events in the world, and we are excited to participate in them once again."
We guess its time to hold hands and sing Kumbaya.
