The Top Poker Rooms in the U.S.: The Flamingo Hotel and Casino

The Flamingo hotel and casino is the house that Bugsy built. It is also ultimately the project that resulted in the extra hole that was put into the back of his head by his mafia financiers. Ironically, despite the cost overruns that got Mr. Seigel killed, the hotel has made more money than either he or his investors could have imagined. Today it has managed an interesting trick, despite the fact the venue is 50 years old, it has still managed to remain relevant.

There is an advantage to being one of the first hotels to put down stakes. The Flamingo occupies perhaps the best spot on the Vegas strip. It is literally close to anything that is even worth a short walk to see. Obviously this 3300 room hotel and casino doesn't have a theme. There is a subtle "Godfather" feel to the place, but that is probably unintentional and has more to do with the buildings history more than anything else.

Besides a wealth of history, the Flamingo offers world class dining in the form of a Steakhouse, and authentic Japanese eatery, and an Italian Restaurant that is one of the best in the city. Combined with this is a number of casual dining establishments and some rather relaxed bar and grills that allow the visitor to just kick back.

The casino itself is 77,000 square feet of the most popular games in Vegas and sports a Caribbean theme. The gaming floor offers over 2,100 slots, video Poker machines, a Race & Sports Book, and a myriad of table games, including Roulette, Blackjack, Craps, and various forms of Poker. The only knock on this hotel is that if you are a Hold'em enthusiast there are far better places to go. Outside of that tiny blemish on this hotel, it is overall a wonderful experience.
