The Top Poker Rooms in the U.S.: The Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey

One of the newest casino/resorts in Atlantic City, the luxurious Borgata is a $1.1 billion complex with more than two thousand hotel rooms, a variety of restaurants, headline entertainment in a 1,000 seat Music Box Theater and a 2,100 seat Event Center, a first-class spa, a night club, at least one bar (the Gypsy) which offers more than 80 tequila brands and...oh, yes...a major casino and one of the most popular Poker Rooms in town.

The hotel rooms are designed, in the words of the Borgata, as if they were the "finely appointed guest quarters in the home of a close friend." Of course, one hopes your friends don't charge you these rates, but you get the idea: comfy, luxurious and stylish. The management says all the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with prime views of the ocean and bay.

The 125,000 square-foot casino offers more than 3600 slot, video poker and other machines, and table games such as roulette, baccarat, Let It Ride, Spanish 21, Big Six, Sic Bo and others.

The 30-table Poker Room, opened as part of the new casino in July, 2003, is stylish and a magnet for a similarly stylish crowd. It is already known for its comfortable feel, including easily adjustable chairs and its own snack bar. It is also one of the most popular poker rooms in Atlantic City, with waits of an hour or two common from noon on. Plans are apparently already being made for expanding it to 100 tables. It features Texas Hold'em, 7-Card Stud and Omaha Eight. Medium- to high-limit stud games are frequent. Daily poker tournaments were cancelled until the conclusion of the World Poker Tour Open's Borgata Winter Poker Open, which was scheduled for Feb 1, 2006.
