Poker on TV - High Stakes Poker

Considering the runaway popularity of poker, most of us were pretty sure that it wouldn't be long before the Game Show Network got their foot into this particular door. Their show, High Stakes Poker, features poker professionals competing for some of the biggest money on television.  This show lives up to its name. The minimum buy-in to play on High Stakes Poker is a crippling $100,000. Because of the debilitating nature of the buy-in, it is almost a gaurantee that none of the players are at the table just to be on television. This is serious, down and dirty poker where the players risk big money in the hopes or winning huge money. The lack of a Hollywood element makes this show a nice departure from other programs that are currently airing.  High Stakes Poker is structured a little differently. Instead of offering just another tournament, this show plays the type of poker that is responsible for more fist-fights than a Manchester United game, or Hole concert. These folks play a televised ring game. This means all the chips on the table represent real money. Considering how much players are paying to play in this game, losing your bankroll can become a highly personal event.  To host this show, the Game Show Network tapped a pair of the most entertaining folks in the industry. Gabe Kaplan who has made a name for himself in television, stand-up comedy, and professional poker provides his own witty brand of hand-by-hand analysis of what is going on, and gossip columnist turned author A.J. Benza is the ring master of this poker circus.  High Stakes Poker is a highly entertaining addition to the ranks of poker television. It can be seen on the Game Show Network every Monday at 9pm/8pm central time.
