Hailing from a place known for its golden beaches, Malibu, California, is 36-year-old television producer Jamie Gold, the winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event. Born in New York City, Gold went on to become a successful Hollywood agent representing many talented actors, including one of the biggest stars of the hit HBO TV show "The Sopranos", James Gandolfini, as well as one of the co-stars of another hit show "Desperate Housewives", Felicity Huffman. Gold moved on from representing actors to running his own television studio.
One of the stars he represented happened to also be one of the greatest poker players of all time, Johnny Chan. With the 10 time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Chan as a mentor, there is no need to question why Jamie Gold not only made it to the final table at the 37th annual World Series of Poker as the dominating chip leader, but also how he managed to carry on his lead through 12 hours of final table play and emerge the newest champion, banking $12 million. That victory was Jamie's 15th time to cash in a major poker tournament, but his first time to make it to a WSOP final table. His conservative, commanding play would certainly make Johnny Chan proud, especially considering he was the dominant chip leader since Day Three. Often the chip leader does not emerge the winner, and in fact last year Australian Joe Hachem won the Main Event only after battling back from short stack status. Gold was single-minded in his determination to win, dedicating his efforts for his sick father, who, in the late stages of ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease), was surely proud when he received an early morning phone call from Gold letting him know that his son had won the biggest championship prize in poker history. Jamie Gold is young, successful, and seems to be healthy and charming - all great attributes for the new ambassador of poker for the next 12 months. As you can see in the list of his other tournment victories below, his latest and greatest victory dwarfed the combined total of all the others and will be a hard act to follow for Mr. Jamie Gold.EventPlacePrize$10,000 No Limit Texas HoldemWorld Championship Event1$12,000,000$ 1,000 No Limit Holdem2006 Sport of Kings, Inglewood2$18,400$300 No Limit Holdem2006 Winnin' O' the Green, Los Angeles3$14,615$500 No Limit Holdem2005 National Championship of Poker, Inglewood 8$1,290$100 No Limit HoldemGrand Slam of Poker 2005, Gardena7$2,050$1,000 No Limit Holdem Championship2005 Mini Series of Poker, Los Angeles 7$4,725$291 No Limit Holdem2005 Heavenly Holdem, Los Angeles10$4,668$200 Pot Limit Holdem2005 Stars & Stripes, Los Angeles18$240$200 No Limit Holdem2005 Stars & Stripes, Los Angeles1$54,225$200 No Limit Holdem2005 Stars & Stripes, Los Angeles9$1,060Related Articles:Jamie Gold is the 2006 WSOP Main Event WinnerAugust 10th Daily Review
