Katja "Miss Slick" Thater

Katja "Miss Slick" Thater entered the world on July 14, 1966 in Hamburg, Germany. Now a woman of many pursuits - Thater is steadily earning an impressive reputation as a poker professional capable of matching wits with some of the sport's greatest.

Success is not a stranger to Thater. She's known success at the helm of a German marketing firm and is an accomplished horse breeder and skilled dressage rider. The road to poker success began for Thater with a fluke situation in 1999 when she won the pot while covering for her husband's restroom break at the 7-Card Stud European Championships in Baden, Austria. This initial taste of winning was all it took to hook Thater.

High limit - do or die type games housed in the sole Hamburg casino quickly became the place where Thater got her "crash course" in poker reality. Local cash game tournaments marked some of Thater's earliest successes. She took advantage of the many opportunities to play the continuously growing number of German/European tournaments. Now many years later it is tournament poker that fuels Thater's passion to play.

At the Las Vegas Mirage in 2003 she blazed by 140 opponents to land the No Limit Holdem tournament. In 2004 she made her WSOP debut at the $10,000 buy-in Main Event. At the 2005 Tunica, Mississippi World Poker Open she was a finalist in all but two of the seven events. By 2006 she was a regular fixture of the German sports media and is now among the poker elite as a member of Team PokerStars.

"Miss Slick" is known for her determined, emotionless, aggressive, and unwavering play. All these traits paid off - Thater recently won the $1,500 Razz event at the 2007 WSOP and now has her first gold bracelet.
