Barbara Enright is maybe the most vivid illustration of the fact that poker is not only a men’s game anymore. She is a real poker professional and veteran. Her winning list imresses most experienced male players. And by the way – she is the only woman who ever managed to work her way to the final WSOP table.
LA Woman
Barbara was born in Los Angeles and played her first poker hand at age 4. She liked the game and by the time she was 21 she was an experienced gambler. In 1976 she entered a public card room for the first time.
She has been developing her playing style for many years and continues doing it now. She is a very tough opponent not only for female opponents. “Barbara Enright …is every bit as aggressive as the most aggressive men,” described her Tom McEvoy in one of his articles.
“The Day A Women Win The Main Event Is The Day I Die"
These are the words of Amarillo Slim, who like most poker pioneers do not believe in a good female player. But in 1995 Amarillo was pretty “close to death” as Barbara worked her way to the final WSOP table.
She had a great chance to become the world champion, but she suffered a truly bad beat. She was shortstacked and went all-in with a pair of eights. Brent Carter called her with such trash as 63 suited and flopped two pair. Poker is like that.
However, Barbara has 3 WSOP bracelets and is the only woman, ever played at the final table.
Online Games Fan
Barbara Enright is currently a member of the Paradise Poker team. She constantly plays online and says she really enjoys Internet poker. Her screen name at Paradise is “ItsOnlyMe.” She likes the fact that there’s always a tournament on and you don’t have to travel to participate in one.
“If you get up to go to the bathroom, it will be about a fifteen minute wait for your blind to come back around so you can play,” says Barbara. “Online, less than a five minutes.” “You can also wash dishes and clean house between hands,” she adds.
Now Barbara resides in Hollywood with her family and proceeds playing high-stakes poker for living. She has not become the WSOP Champion yet. So, Mr. Amarillo Slim can stay cool.
