Annette Obrestad Wins Tournament Performance of the Year

Poker is a game that typically awards for outstanding efforts with big piles of cash, but sometimes there are other kinds of rewards that go along with it. A bracelet from the World Series of Poker, a trophy from the WPT, winning the Player of the Year race are all fine examples. People behind the European Poker Awards also strive to recognize outstanding poker play, and they recently honored Annette Obrestad with the Tournament Performance of the Year award.  The event, held in Paris, was presented by Betfair.com. Some may say that Annette's win is a bit suspicious, considering she is a poker pro playing for Betfair, but no one can gainsay her accomplishment at the World Series of Poker of Europe this year.  The first WSOP series to be held off of American soil, the WSOPE was held in London, where the age minimums for gambling are lower. This allowed Annette to join the throng of players, where she eventually became the youngest player ever to win a WSOP event, and she won the main event. She was 18.  But was her accomplishment greater than that of Carlos Mortensen, one of the other players up for the nod for Tournament Performance of the Year? Carlos, a former WSOP main event champion himself, won the World Poker Tour championship in 2007, the first time any player had held both titles.  According to the Poker Europa Chief presenting the award to Annette, yes, it was. Nic Szeremeta dubbed her achievement as phenomenal. It was, indeed.
