William "Bill" Edler: Modest Ways that Pay

2007 has been a stellar year for William "Bill" Edler. He won a 2007 WSOP bracelet in the $5,000 buy in No Limit Holdem event - Event 45 - for $900,000. Earlier he picked up a Compton, California win during the first ever $10,000 Heads-Up poker championship there. Add in six World Poker Tour cashes and numerous final table appearances and it is easy to see why Edler's earnings to date are in excess of $2,200,000.

This top poker pro is not routinely found soaking up the often sought-after poker media spotlight. He is known to suggest things like that his wins were the result of "small playing fields." Edler is on the opposite end of the spectrum - where many poker stars flex their egos and swagger in an aura of intimidation - Edler remains modest to say the least. He is a devoted family-man based out of New York who makes time for family outside of his regular poker engagements in Las Vegas and elsewhere.  Edler's start in poker began when he ventured into a legal poker room following dinner with friends in the Bay area. He passed up a career in law after earning his law degree because his one-night stint in the cardroom left him ready to play more. He has not stopped playing since that fateful night.  During his pre-poker years, Edler worked for a time as a poker room manager at the Casino San Pablo - where he eventually brought Erick Lindgren onboard as a low-limit prop player. Now, Edler plays the big-dogs of poker as a full-time poker professional. He recently topped Barry Greenstein and 62 others at the 2007 Poker Netcast Heads Up Challenge to earn over $200,000.
