What should one do to become a successful Limit Hold’em player? Play very tightly and just wait for the opponents to make mistakes or go on tilt, you’ll say. Is it really so? Ask Ted Forrest. "First I heard of Ted Forrest was as a freak. Ted Forrest, poker player, the freak. As in, "You know what that freak Ted Forrest did? Listen to this hand he played…" says the famous gambling author Jesse May.
The Man Who Plays Every Hand Yes, Ted Forrest is one of the best Limit Hold’em players. And – yes, he plays almost every hand he is dealt. He acts like a maniac but he can outplay everyone. No one ever knows what this man has. When he began his poker career nobody took this hyper-aggressive player seriously, but… “Back in the early nineties,” recalls May, “he just sat there in the chair wearing a long haired hippie smile and boyish looks, sipping diet Pepsis and orange juice. Smiling, calling, raising, and winning.” He has a great ability of reading people at the table. It seems he has a kind of X-ray sight because he exactly knows when his opponents are trying to bluff him. Now Ted Forrest lives in Las Vegas and plays poker professionally. He hasn’t won many tournaments because he does not participate in those too often. However, he won three gold bracelets at the World Series of Poker in 1993. Only Phil Ivey (in 2002) and Phil Hellmut (again in 1993) were able to do the same thing. His wins were in the Seven Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo and Razz events. He also won two events in 2004. They were in Seven Card Stud and No Limit Holdem. Rumors There are a lot of rumors about Ted. For example that once he accepted a bet to run a marathon on the hottest day of the year in Las Vegas when it was 115 degrees and won $7,000 for that. Forrest seems to be absolutely indifferent about the rumors. He just continues playing his favorite game and driving his opponents crazy.
