The idea that a wife may do something better than her husband is the stuff that makes bad sitcom stories. Once it has become evident that the male character's spouse has shown some sort of profeicency in something he himself wants to be good at, zany plans are hatched to either beat the stuffing out of the wife at the game, or get her to give it up altogether. Thank God Sharon Goldman's husband, Dan, is much more secure than the fat guy from the show King of Queens. Because of this fact, we all get the pleasure of watching Sharon competes.

Sharon is a relative newcomer to the sport. Back in their dating days, she had her interest piqued by Dan, who is the Vice President of Marketing for the online poker room Poker Stars. Instead of going to movies and waiting for her beau to nervously put their arm around her, Sharon and Dan played poker. It was from him that she learned the game of Texas Hold'em. She was a rather quick study and was soon at the casino tables applying what she had learned.  From 1999 to 2003 she stuck pretty much to low-limit hold'em. She was doing fairly well at it, but after a while she craved a bigger challenge. Sharon moved on to bigger limit games, then eventually to small buy in and no-limit tournaments. In the California tournament scene, Sharon was a regular face at the final table. In 2003 she made two back-to-back showings at final tables during the Hustler Casino's Grand Slam. It was at this point that she stopped seeing this as a hobby, and started to consider herself a professional.  At the 2003 World Poker Tour Aruba Ultimate Poker Classic, she was introduced to the television audience, and finished in the money (21st place). This appearance was followed up by an impressive 3rd place finish at the WPT Ladies Night II.Considering how much poker is pulsing through the genetics of this family, it is scary to think what a child of this pair would do at the tables.
