Richard Lee loves his hometown of San Antonio, Texas - you can guess so because he says it and because he wore a "San Antonio" T-shirt at the final table of the Main Event of the 37th annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada. Possibly the only player at the table who did not sport some form of online poker room paraphernalia, Richard started the day off third in the chip count, a little behind poker pro Allen Cunningham and worlds behind the chip leader Jamie Gold.
Sitting at the final table is a dream come true for many players, one that almost came true for Richard last year in the Grand Slam of Poker which was held in Los Angeles. There he made it to 12th place, a spot that many players would be happy with and glad that they just about doubled up on their investment. And now it's safe to say that his $2.8 million sixth place finish at the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event is a new career record for the Honolulu, Hawaii born poker player. Richard is married and has three adult children, and is a patriotic fellow. When the officials at WSOP asked him what he would want the world to know about him, the answer was that he loved his family, his country, and San Antonio. Richard played fairly tight during his final table appearance, and did manage to outlast three other players. He did make a few calls that the professional commentators wondered about. This 55-year-old investor, while he may have raised a few critical eyebrows from the pros watching the game, has nothing to be ashamed about as now he is one of poker's newest multimillionaires.
