In the "never even give a glimpse of insight to your opponent" world of professional poker, it's become a trend to see sunglasses on players at the tables indoors and hats pulled down to cover the eyebrows or forehead. So in this world of "cover up" it's refreshing to see a player embracing the outgoing, insightful and public open-house that is an online blog (a web log, or online journal) as Rafael Furst has done.
Blogs are be a sign of the times, and who says you can't let others see your softer, more personal side away from the poker table? It might even attract more fans. It certainly allows family and friends to keep tabs on your poker prowess and, yes, gives a little insight to your style of play. Furst seems to welcome the opportunity to share some fun on his blog, even posting a cartoon caricature of himself on it: rafefurst.com Rafael, a name that brings a biblical resemblance to the angel of the same namme, often goes by "Rafe" to friends and family. You won't spot angels at poker tables, but you will spot a World Series of Poker champion by that name. Furst, who hails from Marina Del Ray, CA, made the journey to Vegas for the 2006 WSOP and walked away with a bracelet after he took out a large field and won Event 3, the $1,500 Pot Limit Holdem event. This even in a head-to-head matchup with high-stakes man Rocky Enciso. You don't, however, have to read long on his blog to discover that Furst is a down-to-earth guy and likes to keep the wide-open world of poker - which is enjoying its greatest exposure ever on TV, cable and online – in perspective. For him, it's still a sport and fun. So where and what will Rafe be up to next now that he has a WSOP title to his credit? Well, we'll just have to visit his blog and find out, won't we?
