Whenever a sports team wins some sort of championship, you can see them in the locker room pouring expensive alcohol all over each other and signing old Queen tunes. Also the words that are generally on everyone’s lips is “repeat”. It is almost as if they have not given themselves to enjoy what they just accomplished without thinking ahead. On the face of it this seems silly, but it is the mark of a good competitor. Never resting and always looking for that next big challenge.

In 2005 Mark won his first World Series of Poker bracelet playing “No Limit Hold’em”. Seeing as his one bracelet is one more than most players will ever win, you would think he would have sat back and enjoyed the accomplishment. Instead of humming “We are the Champions” everywhere he went though, and jingling his new jewelry in the face of anyone who did not have one, but that is not Mark’s style. Instead of basking in the afterglow of this accomplishment, he went on to repeat his performance and quickly won as second bracelet, presumably for the other wrist.  Poker has a way of being a sort of professional reincarnation for many of the players. Mark is ideally suited for a world that involves bluffing, semi-bluffing, long hours, and keen observation skills. In a past life he was a district attorney. Dealing with defense attorneys prepared him for a life of dealing with highly skilled liars. The best evidence of this is the jewelry that now adorns his wrist.  Marks life is far more than simply the WSOP circuit. He is associated with “Absolute Poker” as well as a commentator for the Professional Poker Tour.  Now that Mr. Seif has had a couple tastes of WSOP gold, and experienced the thrill of a repeat. How far behind does anyone think a “Three-peat” really is?Article of the Day Archive
