Layne Flack was born in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1969. He grew up in Montana where his interest in cards developed early. Flack's work as a dealer and cardroom manager led him to play poker for himself. Friendships with Johnny Chan and Huck Seed helped launch Layne Flack to where he is today. An early victory for Flack came with 1999's win during the $3,000 pot limit Holdem event at the WSOP.
Flack quickly earned his nickname "Back to Back Flack" after settling into his routine as an aspiring poker pro on the scene in Las Vegas. He won twice during the 2002 WSOP - taking the $2,000 No Limit Holdem event as well as the $1,500 No Limit Holdem event. Although he has a reputation for drinking with wild abandon and playing visibly drunk - it apparently has little effect on his ability. Flack has 15 wins at the WSOP. In 2003 he won the $1,500 Limit Holdem shootout and the $2,500 Omaha Hi-Lo. Other noteworthy wins include a second place finish worth half a million dollars in the 2004 $6,000 No Limit Holdem Ultimatebet Poker Classic, and first place with a $40,000 payout during the 2004 Monte Carlo Millions Consolation Tournament. Flack has garnered interest with an erratic playing style that is difficult for his opponents to follow. Some call his no limit game absolutely unconventional. Flack is the first to admit that he avoids most poker self-help books and prefers to play with a gut instinct, no fear, an ability to read opponents and sheer aggression. Flack's poker pro friends have helped him launch his career and save his life. He credits Daniel Negreanu with seeing him through a rough period in his life that involved drug use and time spent in rehab. Flack now represents Full Tilt Poker and enjoys helping amateurs learn the sport he loves.
