Kassam 'Freddy' Deeb

Kassam 'Freddy' Deeb

Some players would use the word “hubris” in relation to competitor who refers to large cash games as an investment. The very word implies that a return is not just desired, but expected. If you look at the results of Kassam “Freddy” Deeb’s “investments” though, you would have to admit he has a point. He has proved more profitable than Enron, K-mart, and Adelphia combined.  Kassam has earned a level of confidence in his game that very few players have. Most of this was attained through a form of trial by fire. The Beirut, Lebanon native first came to the United States to study Mechanical Engineering. While in his senior year in Utah, war broke out in Lebanon. Not only was he unable to reconnect with his family back home, but he was not allowed to work here in the states. Many in his situation have just given up and taken low wage jobs or menial work that is available to people who are new to the country. Instead Deeb went on the offensive. He took up the game of poker and never looked back. In fact poker has been the only paying job that “Freddy” has ever had.  Kassam now resides in Las Vegas and has not only made a fortune, but a name for himself. His personal history is littered with impressive achievements at the poker table. The year 2005 has been especially good to him. His winnings are well over a million dollars; he has made five high profile final tables, and was the winner of the 4th Annual Ultimatebet.com Poker Classic. Add to this that he is in the running for Card Player Magazines “Player of the Year” honors, and you have the makings of a more than satisfactory year. In the end anyone could look at this run and declare it a good investment.Article of the Day Archive
