Joseph Charles "The Elegance" Beevers was born December 9, 1967 in Marylebone, London. When he was 10, he already knew how to count cards in blackjack. He is now one of Europe’s best known poker professionals and the only Hendon Mob member who really lives in Hendon. Beever’s poker career began after a teenage stint with a traveling blackjack team and some horse and dog track betting. His blackjack team was so successful that their group was frequently banned from local casinos. Later, Beever’s initial sampling of poker met with poor results - so he vowed to master the game.
Formerly employed by Citibank - Beevers started making enough money from poker to leave office work for good. Playing poker on the side - Beevers earned an undergraduate degree in finance and accounting.
The first major win for Beevers was in the 1997 Master Classics of Poker. Two years later Beevers played in the first televised poker tournament, Late Night Poker. He and his poker traveling companions organized The Hendon Mob to establish a network for poker sponsorship. Since that time the Hendon Mob has established itself worldwide.
Since his vow to learn poker - “The Elegance” has had his share of success. Beever’s game of choice is Pot Limit Omaha. In 2001, he won the Irish Prelim Open – and then he won the 2002 European Omaha Championship, the 2003 Irish Open, and the 2004 Four Queens Championship. In 2004, he placed second in both Sky TV’s Poker Million - The Masters, and the World Poker Championship in Dublin. He won $46,000 at the 2005 WSOP and $188,000 at the 2005 WPT.
Following the 2005 WSOP, Joe married his sweetheart Claire at the Bellagio. He and his wife are the proud parents of Millie and Lola - twin girls.
