David Williams actually has never won the World Series of Poker. He finished second in 2004. However, he is one of the best-known poker celebrities. People on streets just call his name and ask how much he has won. And he just says: “A few millions.”
Pokemon For The Advanced David started playing poker when he was about 17 years old. He used to play in Dallas underground card rooms. But this was not his first acquaintance with cards. He learnt to play in early childhood, and his best game was… “Magic: The Gathering.” David still admires the game. “It has elements of chess and poker, but no game is like it,” he says. “It is sort of like Pokemon for the advanced.” David did not play the game just well. He was one of the world’s best players. “I have traveled to approximately 35 countries to play Magic,” recalls the guy. Playing this card game young David was able to make hundreds of dollars as he participated in various tournaments. David has always been a bright kid. He studied in Princeton for some time, but did not like the atmosphere and returned home. Now he studies in Southern Methodist University in Dallas and soon will graduate with a degree in economics and a minor in math. WSOP-2004 Like, the 2004 World Champion Greg Raymer, Williams won his ticket to the WSOP through online satellite. It was his first major poker tournament and he managed to work his way to the final table. Greg Raymer managed to beat David. Raymer took $5 million, Dave - $3.5 million. More than enough, you’ll say? Not for David. He desperately wanted to become a Champion. “Sure, it was about the money,” he says. “But it wasn't entirely about that. Winning was so much more important to me. If first place had paid $3.5 million and second place had paid $5 million, I still would have liked to win. I really wanted to win.” Consequences People recognize David on the streets and try to make friends with him, after his WSOP triumph. “I'm just walking along, and a woman says, 'Hey, aren't you that poker guy?'”, recalls Williams. “And I say yeah, and she asks me how much I won. I say a few million. So she says, 'I want you to meet my daughter.'” His girlfriend Britanny knows that they can’t avoid such stuff. David is only 24 now but he is a celebrity. “Things have been kinda crazy, yeah," says Williams. But he seems to enjoy the craze.
