Daniel Negreanu: Kid Poker

Daniel Negreanu: Kid Poker

On July 26, 1974, Daniel Negreanu was born to Romanian parents Constantin and Annie in Toronto, Canada. By age sixteen Daniel satiated his competitive spirit with pool hustling and poker. As a young adult he embarked on hours of playing poker and studied the game tirelessly until he grew both his confidence and skills.

The urge to move to Las Vegas hit when Negreanu turned 21. It wasn't long before he lost so much he had to return to Toronto. Despite the poor luck he pressed on and played constantly in hopes of reaching his full potential.  It wasn't long before it paid off. He earned the title of best all-around player in 1997 at the World Poker Final hosted by the Foxwoods. He earned first place and a new nickname when he won the $2,000 pot limit Holdem event during the 1998 WSOP. "Kid Poker" became his new nickname after this win - making him the youngest player ever for that time - at age 23, to win a bracelet.  Daniel's momentum continued with another WSOP bracelet for the 2003 S.H.O.E. event. It wasn't long before he had yet another title to add to his resume - that of earning more than any other player ever in tournament poker.  2004 was a massive year for Negreanu. He took a third WSOP bracelet for the Limit Holdem event and had two WPT wins. He was named player of the year by the WSOP, season three of the WPT, and Card Player magazine.  All the success has prompted Negreanu to share what he knows with others. He began with a contribution to Doyle Brunson's Super System 2 and from there landed a deal to publish his own poker resources with Cardoza Publishing.  All the winning and fame has left Daniel unclouded. He has a huge, loyal fan base and is known for being laid back and fun to be around.
