The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has a fantastic record of sending the best and brightest this nation has to offer forward to build a better society. There is a reason you never hear about a “middle linebacker” from M.I.T., or a “designated hitter”. They spend all of their time developing their cerebral cortexes, and have no time for such trivial pursuits, or so we all thought. It is also a haven for card players. They have one of the most feared “Blackjack” teams in the country. From this nerdvana we get Andy Bloch.  Andy’s resume goes way beyond the pair of engineering degrees he earned at M.I.T. He is also a graduate of the nation’s best law school, Harvard. As a board certified lawyer from an Ivy League school, dozens of paths were open to him. What did he want to do with his life though? Well the fact that he cut class at Harvard to play in the World Series of Poker should give some indication of where his heart really was.  Since entering the ranks of professional poker players, Andy has done quite well for himself. In 2002 he placed 3rd in the World Poker Finals. He also took the third position in the 2003 L.A. Poker Classic. Since that time he has many prominent finishes in scores of different tournaments.   Andy is associated with Full Tilt poker, and plays as well as instructs on their site. It is uncertain whether or not he will ever step back into law. He is bar certified and has a pedigree that would qualify him to sit in the Oval Office. Instead he follows his heart and plays the game he loves. We are lucky to have him.Article of the Day Archive
