Vincent Van Patten: 'Just Pull The String And We Won't Shut Up'

Vincent Van Patten is one of the two World Poker Tour commentators. So, phrases like “my two year old nephew can play better than this guy” and all this stuff are not admitted. Who cares what a player he is? “Remember, he is an actor that plays poker. Not the other way around,” it was said about him once. Well, this is exactly what I mean.

A Young Actor With Healthy Teeth  Vince is the son of popular actor Dick Van Patten. So Vince treaded in his father’s steps and debuted as an actor at age 9 showing his white teeth in a Colgate commercial. Later throughout his youth he played in many films and shows. This career didn’t stop with the end of his childhood. He likes this sort of art and once even worked as a director for the film based on his own script. It was called "The Flunky”. For his work, he received the prestigious award of Best Director at the Port Hueneme International Film Festival in 2000.   Besides being a talented actor Vince is a good tennis player. He learnt to play this game by himself. His tennis career lasted for 8 years his best ranking being number 26 in the world which makes vince very proud of himself. The Kid With A Fake Beard  Vince learnt to play poker from his father at age 9. At about 15 the grown-ups let him play with them. “We played every game imaginable, and the stakes were pretty high,” recalls Vince. “About that same time, I also started driving to Gardena to play in the local poker clubs… I had a fake mustache and beard, and would glue them on and play all night. I was only 5'5" and looked like a little freak, but it usually worked.” “Acey-Deucy”  Now Vince Van Patten co-hosts World Poker Tour together with Mike Sexton. “Mike and I have decades of experience and are like a talking Ken and Barbie,” boasts Vince. “Just pull the string and we won't shut up.” They had a kind of division of labour. Mike usually tries to make serious commentary while Vince makes the game funny and entertaining. He seems to have a nickname for every possible hand (like Acey-Deucy, Two Snowmen etc).   They have are a really good team with Mike and their commentary is one of the main reasons of the show’s popularity. And who really cares what kind of player Vince is?
