Mike Sexton: 'You Better LOVE The Game'

Everyone who is interested in poker tournaments knows the name of Mike Sexton. The professional poker player, the co-host of the World Poker Tour he’s one of the main figures in the world of modern poker.

Military Base - Ballroom – Vegas  Mike has always been active and purposeful guy. In his youth he successfully parlayed his state championship title in gymnastics into a full four-year scholarship to Ohio State University. After receiving a degree in Public Recreation Mike joined the Army in 1970. He served as a paratrooper stationed with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. After two years of constant jumping from airplanes he became a bit tired of it. He returned home and tried several jobs like salesman and ballroom dance teacher.   In late 1977 he decided to quit his job and try playing poker for a living, and in 1985 he moved to Las Vegas. He knows only one winning secret of professional poker, which is enough for him: "You better LOVE the game. I don't mean 'like' to play, I mean 'love' to play." He has been playing poker professionally for over twenty years, so you can believe him.   His poker career is successful. He holds a World Series of Poker bracelet in Seven-Card Stud High-Low from 1989, and is in the top five all-time for "times in the money" at the WSOP. From Players To Commentators  Recently Mike gained celebrity status by co-hosting the World Poker Tour with Vince Van Patten on the Travel Channel. His commentary is one of the key factors, which make the show so popular. Sexton also regularly writes articles for Card Player magazine and has launched The Party Poker Million in collaboration with PartyPoker.com and Linda Johnson.   Now with a lot of routine work to do he does not have much time to play poker. In addition he is not permitted to participate in any of the WPT events. He is only allowed to play in WPT satellites that give the $10,000 cash, but he cannot win a seat. A cobbler without shoes?
