David Sklansky: 'It Is A Game Of Skill'

David Sklansky is one of the best-know poker theorists. He has never won at the WSOP. But his books helped several people to do it. And most people use his advices when playing poker. I even found this on one of the poker sites: 'After thoroughly Sklanskifying myself, I managed to change my style of play virtually overnight. My mantra became WWSD: What Would Sklansky Do?'  So – why Sklansky? Also he doesn't offer you the advices you can find everywhere. There are several things you use almost every time you play poker and thus "sklanskifying"(I like this word!) yourself:1) The Fundamental Theorem of Poker. This is what you read first of all and since then you try to manage it. From time to time you even use it and win. It works if you understand it. Though you have to spent hours and hours putting it into practice.2) Hand Groupings. One of the most useful things that helps you to evaluate the playability of your hand. All you need – to learn by heart these groupings – and you'll be always up tight.3) Pot Odds. There are only two books that offer rather comprehensive description of how to do it. One of them – Sklansky's Theory of Poker.  Among books written by David Sklansky are:1) The Theory of Poker (required reading for every poker player)2) Hold'em Poker3) Getting the Best of It4) Poker, Gaming and Life5) Sklansky Talks Blackjack6) Sklansky On Poker7) Tournament Poker8) Seven-Card Stud for Advanced Players (in collaboration with Mason Malmuth and Ray Zee)9) Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players (in collaboration with Mason Malmuth)  To sum up - don't read about Sklansky. Read Sklansky.
