Adam Sandler Knows How to Play Texas Hold’em (really)

Adam Sandler

Most people have noticed that a lot of website poker pages are starting to look like something that TMZ would have burped up. This is because as soon as stars discovered learning how to play Texas hold’em was a good career move, almost everyone with a Hollywood zip code and a Screen Actors Guild card in their wallet was logging on the internet’s best poker rooms to figure the game out. Since then, much of the poker news has been dominated by celebrities…and some of the legitimate poker pros have become celebrities. In a lot of cases it was a disingenuous attempt to stay relevant, but in the case of Adam Sandler, he seems to truly enjoy the game.

First of all, there is no chance that the best poker rooms, like FullTilt or PokerStars, are going to snap him up as one of their team members, but whenever there is a charity poker event there is a pretty good chance that Adam will be there.

He was at the “2007 World Poker Tournament” and playing to raise money for the humanitarian crises in Darfur. Considering some of the characters he has played in the past, people would think he would be a maniac or a poker room cheat, but by all accounts in the various online poker pages and poker news, he played a good competent game. Adam has also been a regular at Ante Up for Africa, and while some would make assumptions about his play based on Adam’s general goofiness, he does seem to know how to play Texas Hold’em.

Chances are that we will never see him playing opposite Scott Ian and Jason Alexander at the World Series of Poker Main Event. He probably doesn’t have aspirations of winning a bracelet like many of the Texas Hold’em playing celebrities, but we may get a movie out the whole thing. It could be a film about a mischievous poker cheat, a man/child hold’em savant, and co-star Henry Winkler!
