Video poker machine owners in Sanford will now be paying $100 more a year in order to operate their money making games. A new ordinance was approved on December 30 to raise the annual fees from $50 to $150 by a unanimous vote of the Sanford Town Council. Local clubs and organizations, such as the Knights of Columbus and American Legion, are allowed to own and operate the machines as long as they don’t pay out. The 200 percent jump in video poker machine fees was attributed to the town’s need to increase revenue per year.
