For year the law in the southern US state of South Carolina forbid any game played with dice or cards. As the law applied to household games like Monopoly, it was only enforced when poker and gambling were involved. The law appears about to change as a vote of 4-1 has moved a bill forward via a House subcommittee. Certified not for profit organizations can use raffles to raise money under the new bill. In addition, and most relevant to poker fans, social gambling like home poker games will be permitted.
