2001 no limit Texas Hold’em player of the year Amir Vahedi passed away recently. The poker pro was a well known fixture in many high stake and high profile poker events in recent years. He was born in 1952 in Tehran, Iran, and had tournament winnings in excess of $3,250,000. In 2003 he made the final table in the World Series of Poker and took second place as Card Player of the Year. A former soldier in the Iranian Army, Vahedi sought political refuge in the US at the behest of his mother.
