Online Poker Player from Sweden Wins Tax Issue

By Terry I. Aino, Nov 20, 2008 Money

According to a report from Swedish newspaper Östgöta Correspondenten an online poker player set up a case to try to keep his poker earnings from online poker winnings, and it sound like he got his way. The poker player appealed to the Skatteverket, the Swedish tax authorities, because one of the poker sites was inside the EU and one outside, and thus according to Swedish tax law he should only have to pay on the winnings from the site that operates outside of the EU, in this case, Monaco. The court ruled that the winnings from the Monaco site would be taxed while the others would not.
