The winner of the recently held 2009 Canadian Open Poker Championship is an
amateur from Hull, Quebec, who regularly plays online poker. His $100,000 tax-free cash prize came by defeating runner-up Jeff Madsen, a holder of a World Series of Poker bracelet. Madsen is one of the wunderkinds of the poker world, so Benjamin LaBlond can take a lot of credit for his poker skills by defeating him. LaBlond, who was doing well at the event all weekend, acknowledged that the game is much different live than online.
