The European Union (EU) wants Belgium to restrain from legalizing online poker, but it looks like the European nation is going to do it anyway. Following a similar approach to online poker by similar EU member nation Italy, Belgium recently enacted laws that may lead to online poker’s legality. De Standaard, a Belgium newspaper, printed an article that outlined how Belgium will be pushing laws through in 2010 that will clarify online poker’s legal status in the country. By stopping many online poker rooms like Full Tilt Poker and Titan Poker from operating in Belgium the country will be moving toward a nationalized online poker system, which works against the EU’s policy of free and fair competition among member nations.
