It might not be the next new poker craze, but some might say these poker players were crazy to play in the first InterPoker.com Extreme Poker Championship, held under the surf off the coast of St. Kitts. Completely outfitted with the proper SCUBA gear, poker pros Phil “The Unabomber” Laak and Kenna James took on Juha Helppi and Internet qualifier Louise H from Denmark to see who would be the first Extreme Poker Champion. The true Poker Shark turned out to be Juha Helppi, who eliminated both Laak and James in one bite.Thirty feet over their heads the “crowd” watched, snorkeling in silence; Kathy Liebert and Todd Whiteless along with Jennifer Tilly were there. Louise, the qualifier, spoke of how surreal the whole experience was, going from home in Denmark to the ocean floor, playing poke with the pros. At least Louise could be certain there were more fish at the table than just her.
