Coming up in a couple of short weeks, online poker playing in Italy will be legal, and to prepare for this change in atmosphere, the Italian government has announced an upcoming auction of 17,000 licenses for online poker rooms, as well as online casinos, and sportsbooks. Included in that number are offline outfits as well, such as brick and mortar casinos, kiosks and betting shops. Established betting agencies such as Ladbrokes, Betfair and William Hill are keeping a sharp eye out for a potential move into Italy after the new year begins.
