Up to this past week, Santino Sgambelluria was family man and a United States Naval Officer, originally from Guam and currently stationed in Hawaii. After this week, Santino might just add poker pro to his list of personal definitions; he has already added millionaire.
In the Paradise Poker One Million Freeroll, the finale for which was held in Nassau, Bahamas, it came down to Santino and Ryan Boyes, a utility worker from Atlanta, GA, for the million-dollar win. They, along with eight other players, previously out lasted and out played nearly four thousand other participants in the freeroll, which took place online. When the field of players was narrowed down to ten the event was put in stasis while the finalists were flown to the Bahamas to play the final table live.
When asked what he will do with the winnings, the Naval Officer, who is only the second person to win a million dollar purse in an online event, said he will take care of his family, pay off debts and invest wisely. As for the future, Santino is still in shock, but is not ruling out the beginnings of a pro poker career.
