Poker legend Doyle Brunson recently came under investigation by the Security and Exchange Commission for a possible case of anti-trust law violation. The investigation was launched after a series of events which included an unsolicited bid by Brunson to purchase the gaming group World Poker Tour Enterprises, Inc for a figure that was twice the estimated worth of the company.Brunson, through his attorneys, made an offer for $700 million. When the news was leaked of the offer, WPT stock jumped by 50% in one day. When WPT officials said they could get no further information from Brunson’s camp, the stock further fell. The SEC wants to determine whether or not the poker maven violated anti-trust laws by both making the offer and publicizing the offer. The Las Vegas law firm Goodman & Chesnoff represented Brunson by delivering the offer, then withdrew. They have been subpoenaed by the SEC for the investigation.
