WSOP Anticipates 8,000 For Main Event 06

By launchpoker, Dec 18, 2005

2005 was another record year for tournament poker, in terms of number of events available at the World Series of Poker, the number of participants in general and specifically for the main event (over five thousand) and the prize money that was up for grabs. 2006 is shaping up to break a few more records.

The WSOP planners added more Hold’em events, the most popular by far of the poker games played, and beefed up their accommodations to host what they anticipate to be around eight thousand participants for their main event.

The plan would be to break up the 8,000 into four groups and run four different “first day”s of competition, similar to how it worked in 2005. The main event is scheduled for around two weeks, in order to allow enough time for all the eliminations to take place and get down to the final nine.
