Poker Bribes Bring Down Sheriff

Thursday saw an indictment unsealed that fingered former Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford, charging Medford and three former deputies with participation in an illegal video poker ring. According to prosecutors, the Sheriff and his deputies were assisting video poker operators via non enforcement of the law, not to mention accepting money to protect the illegal video poker ring. The new Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan says that through transparency and accountability he is working hard to reestablish the trust his department needs with the citizens in order to do their job properly.
