The 2006 World Poker Challenge was set, and 28 players were going to get paid out of the 251 players who had put up $5,000, spreading the $1,217,350 prize pool among the just over ten percent for this no limit tournament. The final table was filled with pros and newcomers: Mike Thurman, Joe Tehan, Steve Sung, Erik Cajelais, Tex Barch, Shannon Shorr, Francois Safieddine, Erik Seidel, Zachary Cherry and Justin Bonomo. In the end, it was Erik Cajelais who won the bracelet and $405,230 as well as a $25,000 seat in the World Poker Tour Championship.
