It seems a match made in heaven for poker players and poker business; the freeroll tournaments that offer seats to major events. In one such recent event a 36 year old programmer won a seat to the World Poker Tour, worth $18,500, by competing in an online freeroll tournament. Ken Kafieh will be able to compete in the WPT Bellagio Five Diamond main event courtesy of Pokerrroom.com, the spot where he competed to win. This way poker players like Ken can travel from their home towns, in his case Toronto, Canada, to Las Vegas to compete in a big time tournament, and the poker room gets plenty of publicity.
In what seems to be a reoccurring theme, Ken is one of the newcomers to the game who will get a shot at something he might never have considered otherwise. Only playing for ten months, Ken will now get a chance to get some up close and personal lessons in the game of poker, likely competing against many seasoned pros.
