$80 Million Poker Prize

At Australia’s Crown Casino, in Melbourne, the biggest prize purse in Aussie history will be up for grabs next year. Six of the best poker players in the world will play for a purse of $80 million, the crown event of a tournament being launched from Los Angeles. American poker pro Phil Ivey is the first known player announced, signed up by the event organizers. There will be five more players that will be announced in the up coming months.


There is a buy in that would serve to keep out all but the wealthiest of players, and those willing to put their money where their mouth is. The price tag to play is $13.3 million. The king of Australian poker, the winner of 2005’s WSOP main event Joe Hachem, is expected to sign up to play. The event is scheduled to take place in July of 2006.
