Poker in general, and online poker in specific, rose in recent years beyond an image of dusky backrooms and grafters to one of respectability, but recent actions from online poker rooms such as BetOnSports, which closed down operations without paying members, have poker players wondering if their funds are safe online. For the most part, analysts agree that money entrusted to poker rooms with a reputation for safety, including those given a seal of approval from online betting watchdog eCOGRA, is as safe as money in the bank. Other online poker rooms, such as Doyles Room, have gone out of their way to advertise about the trustworthiness of their systems and their brands.
