Over a four-day period players at the B.C. poker championships in Richmond, British Columbia battled it out, with one man emerging as the winner and claiming the largest legal poker prize in Canada. Salt Spring Island’s James Hawkins took the grand prize of $382,00 in his second ever tournament. Having only played poker for a couple of years, this is quite a windfall for Hawkins, where he faced his own share of the 1,100 players from all over Canada and the United States.The B.C. poker championships were held over a four-day period and consisted of three separate Texas Hold'em events. Hold’em is known as the “Cadillac of poker” and is the game of choice for tournament directors and poker fans alike.It is being said that the Lottery Corporation in Canada hopes that the poker tournament will become an annual event.
