In North Carolina the battle against video poker has been waging a long time. Law makers and enforcers alike see the machines as problematic, because they have to constantly chase down business owners who use them illegally. Get rid of the machines, they say, and there is no question about the law being broken. Now that the state is going to have a lottery, the governor says it is time to ditch the video poker machines."I think you're going to find that the lottery will pretty much do away with the video poker industry," the governor said at a recent news conference. "I think it's likely that you're going to see all the retailers opt for the lottery, and I think you're going to see consumers opt for the lottery."He then added: "I don't think that would necessarily be a bad thing."Critics think the governor is too timid and should institute a ban on the machines now.
