The World Poker Tour Finals has a new champion; 21 year old Nick Schulman, who is following in the growing trend of poker champions. By starting as an online player, Schulman was able to get his skills together, qualify for the WPT, and then give live action vets a run for their money. Schulman proved to have the better endurance as he outplayed the competition to take home $2,142,000 and the title of World Poker Tour Champion.
The final table was swift compared to many, especially considering the final table of the WPT’s inspiration, the World Series of Poker, which lasted well over ten hours. This WPT table was just over three hours long.
The event losers didn’t do to badly for themselves, with Tony Licastro getting $1,035,000 for his second place finish, Bill Gazes finished third at $759,000, Allen Cunningham fourth at $483,000, Lyle Berman fifth at $345,000, and Lenny Cortellino in sixth place at $276,000.
