The United States is not the only spot around the world where poker is under intense scrutiny, although most of the global focus has been on America in anticipation of a new anti-online gambling law. Canada recently saw police raids in four different establishments, the end result of a six month investigation into Texas Holdem poker operations in Ottawa. The OPP's Illegal Gambling Unit and Ottawa police handed out search warrants and made charges of keeping a common gaming house to the Poker Loft, the Royal, the Uppercut Club, and the Ottawa River Club. Gaming tables, chips, cards and more than $12,000 worth of cash and drugs were also seized.
