Belgian Poker Charity Works

By launchpoker, Oct 11, 2006

There was some concern over what would happen recently when a charity poker tournament was organized and hosted in the European country of Belgium, where poker is still considered illegal. The Belgian Federal Gaming Commission were the ones to make the call, but finally gave their permission for the organizers to run the event.

The key point was that the five thousand Euros raised for charity came from sponsors - if the money had come from the players, the event would not have been allowed to go on. As a result, the Everest Poker 4 Charity event, held in the Grand Casino in Brussels, raised money for many groups, including Similes, an outfit that supports the friends and families of psychiatric patients.
