Online Poker Room Suffers Overlay for Being Nice

Online poker room Doyles Room decided to offer a free ticket into a $250,000 Guaranteed event for new deposits by existing players, which wound up costing the poker room $50k. This was the overlay, the amount that they fell short in meeting the $250k guarantee, and so the funds had to come out of Doyle’s Room’s coffers. The total number of players in the event were just over 1,300, but many of them did not have to pay to enter, so the prize pool came up just under $200k. Player are looking at the next such event, scheduled for October 11th, as having another possible overlay.
